Overpopulation - Consequence's
The Picture above clearly summarizes and made you visualize that what are the consequence of fast population growth.
Human overpopulation is resulting in most of the pressing environmental issues like
- global warming, environmental pollution, habitat loss, the sixth mass extinction, intensive farming practices, and the consumption of finite natural resources, such as fresh water, arable land, and fossil fuels, at speed faster than their rate of regeneration.
1. Economic consequences (brief).
The population is the means as well as ends of economic development in India. It an asset if inadequate strength and prove to be a liability if excess in strength. The population has crossed the optimum limit in India and has become a liability. So the problem of overpopulation in India has proved to be a big obstacle in the success of economic planning and development. The current population of India contributes to 17% of the global population. Also, all these people are unevenly distributed across 3.28 million square kilometers of our geographical area.
According to the 2001 Census, Uttar Pradesh is the highest populated state in India with a total number of 166 million people. While on the other hand, states like Sikkim and Lakshadweep have the lowest population of 0.5 million in Sikkim and only 60000 people in the island state of Lakshadweep. Furthermore, about half of India’s population is distributed into five major states- Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Bihar, West Bengal, and Andhra Pradesh. Though Rajasthan is the largest state in size, its population contributes to only 5.5% of the total population of India.
2. Environmental effects
(i) Farming impacts
Farming impacts are not limited to cutting down of the forests only, farmers in different parts of the world burn stubble after the harvest of the crops. It downright results in a large amount of smoke and pollution mixing in the environment which contains toxic chemicals. One infamous example of this is the burning of stubble in the Indian states of Punjab, Haryana, and Rajasthan. The burning of stubble in the harvest season in these states results in the Indian capital New Delhi becoming the gas chamber. People in the capital face respiratory problems due to the high toxic content of the smoke that comes from these neighboring states.
(ii) Deforestation
Due to the population rising at leaps and bounds, it was becoming impossible for the superior species to build houses to live in, it was becoming hard for superior species to pass through the forest in order to travel from one place to another. So they arrived at the conclusion of cutting down the forest altogether to build houses, roads and to increase farming capacity.
The drawback of deforestation is not limited to cutting down the trees which provide us with fresh oxygen but sadly, it also results in wild animals becoming homeless because their natural habitat was captured by humans and turned either into roads, houses, or farms.
(iii) Loss of FreshWater
Due to overpopulation and our constant need for factory-made products, there has occurred a loss of fresh water in the rivers and oceans. Factories discharge all its waste material in the rivers and lakes which results in loss of freshwater. Pollution in water bodies is not only limited to the source of factory waste. Domestic sources due to overpopulation also play a significant part in contributing to the pollution and loss of freshwater in water bodies.
Another negative impact that overpopulation has had on the environment is clearly visible in the form of global warming and climate change. Scientists all across the world are worried about the changing global weather cycle and constant rise in the average world temperature. There have been many agreements signed by different countries to control global warming and climate change. One of the major agreements that have been signed by top polluting countries is the Paris Climate Agreement in the year 2016. According to the agreement, the signatory countries are expected to keep their carbon emission in check so as the global average temperature is limited to an increase of 1.5 degrees celsius.
This is just a trailer of what are the effects of overpopulation, other than this there are political, educational, security, health problem. All the things get affected. So, as this is just a trailer then you can think of how was the real picture, it's a topic of big concern. since we faced one more example of overpopulation is the uncontrollable corona cases, and lack of resources to handle that.
